The Bharat Steel Awards 2026 have been instituted to recognize and honor outstanding organizations and individuals for exemplary performance and significant contributions to the Indian steel sector. The awards aim to promote excellence, innovation, leadership, research, and transformative impact within the steel industry. They celebrate large-scale producers, secondary steel producers, and individuals who have made remarkable contributions to strengthening India’s steel ecosystem over the past decade.
Eligibility Criteria
For Industry Categories (i to vi): Any Indian Steel Company or team, whether Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) or Private. Large Scale Producers: Greater than 1 million tonnes per annum (>1 Mtpa). Secondary Steel Producers: Less than 1 million tonnes per annum (<1 Mtpa). For Exceptional Contribution Award: Must be a Citizen of India. Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent qualification. Must have made an exceptional and transformative contribution to the Indian steel sector in the last 10 years. Contribution may include pioneering research, technological advancement, policy advocacy, leadership in industry transformation, or lifetime service. Minimum Age: 25 years Maximum Age: 60 years

Selection Process
The Award Making Authority (AMA) is constituted with the approval of the Chairman and Secretary, Ministry of Steel. The AMA includes: Secretary, Ministry of Steel (Chairman) Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel Two experts from the steel industry Representatives from research organizations A Screening Committee of Experts (SCE) will scrutinize applications and verify eligibility. The committee may consider renowned engineers, technologists, or academicians for the Exceptional Contribution Award if deemed appropriate. Committee composition and proceedings remain confidential. The decision of the Award Making Authority is final and binding. Canvassing during the selection process will result in permanent disqualification.
