The Geddes Scholarship 2026, offered by the Sanskriti Foundation, supports the study and practical application of Patrick Geddes’ town planning principles. Patrick Geddes, along with his son Arthur Geddes, played a significant role in urban planning in India, and their work continues to inspire sustainable city development. This scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for students and young professionals in planning and architecture to conduct research, explore Geddes’ methodology, and apply it to real-world urban planning projects. Both individual and collaborative projects are eligible for consideration.
Documents Required
Applicants submit the following documents: Two-page CV: A comprehensive curriculum vitae detailing relevant experience and academic background. Contact Information: Full postal address, telephone number, and email ID for communication. Project Proposal: A well-researched proposal advancing Geddes' ideas, including a plan of action, field visits, and the availability of archival material. Bibliography: A list of reports, articles, and websites referenced in the proposal. Research Focus: A clear focus on a specific city or mohalla, with an emphasis on the methodology of diagnostic surveys and conservative surgery. Referee Details: Contact information of two referees who can speak to the candidate's qualifications and potential.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria: Applicants must be Indian nationals aged 20 to 30 years. Students pursuing a degree in planning or architecture at the graduate, postgraduate, or research level are eligible. Young professionals actively practicing in the fields of urban planning or architecture can also apply. Both individual applicants and collaborative groups are eligible. Applicants cannot hold another scholarship/fellowship or work on another project simultaneously.
