The DreamIndia Scholarship was established as a part of the DreamIndia movement, which originated in October 2004 with the goal of improving the lives of underprivileged children. Initially focused on offering English classes to children in slums, the initiative grew into a larger movement that aimed to address educational disparities and provide children with opportunities for growth.
The scholarship was created to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds, offering them the opportunity to continue their education and develop their skills. The movement started with weekend English classes, which quickly gained interest from around 15 children, despite the challenges of finding a location to hold the classes. Eventually, the founders were able to negotiate with a local government school to secure a space for the classes, despite initial resistance from the staff.
