The Internship Program is part of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) under the Revamped Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) (2022-23 to 2025-26), aimed at engaging students and research scholars in the policy research and action work of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR). The internships focus on data analysis, policy research, and rural development efforts tied to the Localization of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs) and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). The internship program seeks to engage talented students and research scholars in practical research and policy development efforts for MoPR’s various program divisions. Interns will contribute to data analysis, policy and situational analysis, and research related to PRIs and rural governance. This provides an opportunity for exposure to real-world government functioning and the chance to contribute to public policy.
Documents Required
Applicants submit the following documents: Letter from Institution: A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the applicant's Principal, Head of Department, or Supervisor confirming their student status and approval to participate in the internship. Resume/CV: Provide a detailed resume highlighting academic qualifications, skills, and relevant experiences. Statement of Purpose (SOP): A brief statement explaining the applicant's motivation to apply for the internship, along with the specific area of interest related to the internship. Academic Transcript: A copy of the most recent academic transcript or degree certificate to verify eligibility. Proof of Enrollment: Current enrollment proof from the university or institution.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria: Students enrolled in or having completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral (Ph.D.)/Post-Doctoral degree within the last two years from any recognized/reputed university/institution. Research Scholars enrolled in Doctoral (Ph.D.) or Post-Doctoral programs are also eligible. Preferred Disciplines: Public Policy Social Policy Development Studies Economics Governance and Public Administration Rural Development Business Administration Environmental Studies Public Health Sociology Political Science Social Work Statistics Data Analysis Engineering and other relevant fields in Social Sciences, Management, and Engineering. Duration: The internship must last for a minimum of 15 days and cannot exceed 6 months. Location: The internship will take place at the MoPR Office and, if necessary, at State SIRD.

As an intern, you will receive: A flat stipend of Rs. 7,000 per month will be provided to eligible interns. Those not expecting a stipend may participate on a pro bono basis. Gain hands-on experience in policy research, data analysis, situational analysis, and research methodology as it relates to rural governance and sustainable development goals (SDGs). Exposure to policy-making processes and the functioning of government institutions at both the central and state levels. Interns will also learn about the 3-tier Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and their role in rural development. Interns will have the chance to work closely with experienced professionals, policymakers, and government officials, expanding their professional network. Receive guidance and mentorship from senior officials and experts in the field of rural governance, public policy, and development. An Experience Certificate will be provided upon successful completion of the internship and submission of the required deliverables (such as research papers and reports). Interns will develop and refine essential skills in research, data analysis, and policy formulation, which will be valuable for future academic or professional endeavors. Gain insight into the implementation of national schemes and policy interventions related to rural development and SDGs.
