The Apprentice – Control System Engineer role at Oceaneering offers hands-on exposure to designing, developing, and validating Siemens PLC-based industrial automation solutions. Working under supervision, apprentices contribute to the development of control logic and hardware for advanced electro-mechanical systems such as ROVs, autonomous mobile robots, and offshore equipment. This role provides an opportunity to work with global Automation & Control teams, develop prototypes, learn industry standards, and build strong technical capabilities in modern control systems within a world-class engineering environment.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria: Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication, or an equivalent field. Good communication skills with fluency in English. Basic understanding of control systems, electro-mechanical systems, or programming concepts. Knowledge of Siemens control system hardware/software, or exposure to network protocols (EtherNet, ControlNet), is desirable. Hands-on experience with MATLAB/SIMULINK, C programming, Python, or simulation tools is an added advantage. Ability to read CAD drawings and strong mathematical/statistical foundations are preferred. Note: This apprenticeship is exclusively available in India. Specifically, in Chandigarh.

Responsibilities
Interns will: Support in designing, developing, and testing Siemens-based control equipment. Assist in creating block diagrams, layout drawings, and documentation related to mechanical, electrical, network, and control systems. Work with Siemens PLCs, Distributed I/O modules, HMIs, SCADA tools, industrial switches, drives, and communication standards such as PROFINET/PROFIsafe. Coordinate project schedules and deliverables with global automation and control teams. Select appropriate sensors, actuators, connectors, and system components. Contribute to proof-of-concept models, prototypes, and demos for ongoing developments. Learn and apply relevant industry standards, best practices, and system design principles. Prepare technical reports, presentations, and project updates for stakeholders. Stay updated with industry trends and support continuous improvements. Follow organizational HR & HSE policies and participate in meeting departmental goals.
