Pre And Post Matric Scholarship For Person With Disabilities 2024
Education is a key factor in the socio-economic empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. Recognizing its importance, the Directive Principles of State Policy in the Constitution of India and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 emphasize the States' role in realizing the Right to Education for Persons with Disabilities. Article 41 of the Constitution directs the State to make provisions for securing the right to education and public assistance in cases of disability. Article 46 promotes the educational and economic interests of the weaker sections of society, and Article 38(2) aims to minimize inequalities in income, status, facilities, and opportunities among individuals and groups.
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India, offers six scholarship schemes for students with benchmark disabilities: Pre-matric Scholarship, Post-matric Scholarship, Top Class Education Scholarship, National Overseas Scholarship, National Fellowship, and Free Coaching Scheme.

    Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicants must be Indian nationals.
    Pre-Matric Students:
  • Applicants are available to students with benchmark disabilities having a valid disability certificate as prescribed by the competent authority.
  • Not more than two children with disabilities from the same parents are eligible, except in the case of twins.
  • Scholarship for studying in any class is available for only one year. Repeating a class will not entitle a student to a scholarship for that class again.
  • A scholarship holder cannot hold another scholarship/stipend concurrently. They can, however, accept free lodging or grants for books, equipment, or board and lodging expenses in addition to the scholarship amount.
  • Scholarship holders receiving coaching in pre-examination training centers with government financial assistance are not eligible for a stipend under the coaching schemes during the coaching program.
  • Pre-matric and Post-matric Scholarship: Parental/Guardian's income from all sources should not exceed Rs. 2,50,000/- per annum.
  • 50% of the total scholarships each year are reserved for girl candidates. Unutilized slots can be used by suitable male candidates if adequate eligible female candidates are not available.
  • Regular, full-time students in classes IX and X in a government or recognized school.
    Post-Matric Students:
  • Only candidates who have passed the Matriculation or Higher Secondary or any higher examination of a recognized University or Board of Secondary Education are eligible.
  • Candidates studying the same stage of education in different subjects are not eligible. However, students pursuing L.L.B/B.Ed/B.El.Ed. after B.A./B.Sc./B.E. are eligible.
  • Students pursuing two different courses simultaneously can avail the scholarship for one course only.
  • Students studying in Class XI of the Higher Secondary School or Class XII of the Multipurpose High School will not be eligible. Exceptions apply if Class X is treated as equivalent to Matriculation.
  • Students pursuing their studies through correspondence courses are also eligible.
  • Employed students whose income combined with the income of their parents/guardian does not exceed the prescribed ceiling are eligible for reimbursement of all compulsorily payable non-refundable fees.
  • Available for studying in classes XI, XII, Post-matriculation Diploma/Certificates, Bachelor’s Degree, or Diploma in India and Master’s Degree/Diploma from any University recognized by UGC/AICTE.
