The 2026 Bristol Short Story Prize is an international writing competition organized by the University of Bristol, England, welcoming both published and unpublished writers from around the world. The contest celebrates creative storytelling of all forms, encouraging submissions across any theme, genre, or style—including literary, graphic, verse-based, crime, science fiction, fantasy, historical, horror, romance, and children’s literature. Writers may submit stories up to 4,000 words in English, provided the work is original and unpublished. Every year, the competition highlights exceptional talent and publishes the top 15 stories in the Bristol Short Story Prize Anthology Volume 18.
