The INSPIRE Fellowship is a prestigious initiative under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), aimed at fostering research excellence among top-performing students in Basic and Applied Sciences, Engineering, Pharmacy, Agriculture, and Veterinary Sciences. The fellowship supports students pursuing full-time Ph.D. programs in recognized Indian institutions, encouraging them to contribute to cutting-edge research. The INSPIRE Fellowship provides financial support and research opportunities to academically exceptional students, enabling them to undertake advanced research in various scientific disciplines. Selected fellows are recognized as INSPIRE Fellows and are provided a conducive research environment in India's top institutions. This fellowship is open to students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and are inclined toward innovative scientific research.
Documents Required
Applicants submit the following documents: Copy of academic certificates and mark sheets (UG and PG). Proof of being a 1st Rank Holder (if applicable). INSPIRE Scholarship Certificate (for existing scholars). Research Proposal endorsed by the supervisor and host institution. Admission proof to a Ph.D. program. Supervisor’s credentials and Host Institution details. No Objection Certificate (NOC) if currently availing any other fellowship. For final offer acceptance and continuation: Joining Letter: Signed and stamped by the host institution. Annual Progress Reports: Verified by the supervisor. Statement of Expenditure and Utilization Certificates: Submitted annually.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria: Applicants must be Indian citizens. This fellowship is exclusively open to both the genders. This fellowship is exclusively open to all categories. 1st Rank Holders in postgraduate (PG) examinations in Basic/Applied Sciences or related disciplines from recognized universities with: Minimum 70% aggregate marks (or equivalent CGPA). A batch size of at least 7 students. Rank holders in Medicine must have a similar distinction at the undergraduate or postgraduate level. INSPIRE Scholars who secured: At least 70% aggregate marks (or equivalent CGPA) in M.Sc. or Integrated M.S./M.Sc. programs. Additional Notes: Fulfillment of eligibility criteria does not guarantee selection. Applications are evaluated based on research proposals, academic merit, supervisor credentials, and host institution reputation. Ph.D. admission in a recognized institution is mandatory for final selection.

Selection Process
The selection is conducted in two stages: Initial Screening: Evaluation of eligible applications by an Internal Committee. Final Selection: Assessment by an Expert Committee based on research proposal quality, academic performance, and institution suitability. The final results are communicated via the portal. Note: Applicants may request re-evaluation within 45 days if their application is not recommended in Level-2 evaluation.
