GIRAF 22 International Festival of Independent Animation Contest
The GIRAF 22 – International Festival of Independent Animation is organized by the Quickdraw Animation Society (QAS) and invites animation submissions from around the world. The festival showcases independent animation in all styles, genres, lengths, and mediums to be presented in Calgary, Canada. Known as the Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival (GIRAF), the event highlights boundary-pushing works that explore innovative techniques, distinctive artistic visions, and thought-provoking subject matter. Selected films will be screened during the festival in November 2026 at the Globe Cinema in Calgary. Awards will be presented for the Best International Short Film and Best Canadian Short Film. There is no entry fee to participate.

  • Applicants may submit animated films in any style, genre, length, or medium.
  • Submissions may include abstract or narrative works, hand-drawn or computer-generated films, student projects, or works by established professionals.
  • Commercial works such as advertisements, explainers, trailers, festival stingers, and motion graphics pieces are not eligible.
  • Children’s films are not suitable, as the festival is aimed at an adult audience.
  • Music videos may be considered, though selection is limited.
  • All submitted works must align with the independent and artistic mandate of the Quickdraw Animation Society.
