Eligibility Criteria
  • To be eligible for the Gallantry Medal, individuals must have undertaken rare and conspicuous acts of gallantry, demonstrating exceptional courage and skill in their role as members of the Police, Fire, Correctional, Home Guard & Civil Defence Services.

  • Who Can Nominate:
  • Nominations can be submitted by the State Government, UT Administration, or the Administrative Controlling Department, highlighting the gallant acts of individuals deserving of this prestigious recognition.
  • Selection Process:
  • The MHA level Central Award Committee, presided over by the Union Home Secretary, meticulously considers and recommends nominations based on the exceptional acts of gallantry displayed by individuals in the line of duty.
  • Approving Authority:
  • The highest honor, the approval for the Gallantry Medal, is granted by the President of India, underscoring the significance and gravity of the recognition.
  • Ceremony Details
  • The announcement of the Gallantry Medal recipients is a momentous occasion, celebrated on Republic Day and Independence Day, symbolizing the acknowledgment and gratitude of the nation for the courageous individuals who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to public service.
