Arte Laguna Prize International Art Contest 2026
The HG Wells Short Story Competition 2026 is an international creative writing contest founded by BBC Aeronautics Correspondent Reg Turnill and his wife, Margaret, to celebrate the life and literary legacy of H.G. Wells. The competition encourages imaginative storytelling, particularly among young writers. The 2026 theme is “The Cheat.” Participants are free to interpret the theme creatively, setting their stories anywhere, using any characters, and writing in any style. Entries must be written in English and must be previously unpublished.

  • The word count must be between 1,500 and 5,000 words.
  • Entries must be written in English.
  • All submissions must be original and unpublished.

  • There is no entry fee for participants aged 21 years and under.
    Participants over 21 years must pay:
  • £10 standard entry fee
  • £5 for those with a valid student ID
