Student Travel And Education Scholarship
Student Travel And Education Scholarship
Partners in Island Education (PIE) plays a pivotal role in enhancing educational opportunities for children on Vinalhaven Island. Established in 1999, PIE initially focused on addressing community needs by fundraising $1.8 million. This effort enabled the construction of a state-of-the-art school facility, featuring a 350-seat theater and expanded library space. Combined with local taxes and state funding, PIE’s contributions resulted in a modern educational environment serving 171 students from Pre-K to 12th grade since its completion in 2003. As part of its ongoing commitment, PIE offers scholarships to middle school students, providing financial support of up to $1500 for educational programs and travel opportunities. These scholarships, made possible through the generosity of summer families and community contributions, aim to empower students by facilitating their participation in enriching educational experiences beyond the island.
